Little Lima Bean has received his first report card. Needless to say, Daddy and I are beaming at his progress. Okay, really, it’s a developmental checklist, but since it’s our first official one, it’s definitely something to celebrate. We have been so pleased with the care he’s gotten at his daycare/school. He has learned so much, so quickly, and he just loves Miss Wendy, Miss Hillary, and all his good buddies. We affectionately call it the Boys Club, as the group has grown from 4 to 6 wonderful infant boys. Well, 5 plus one toddler — little LB!
It’s great that his teachers are seeing the same kinds of skills there as we are at home, and we couldn’t ask for a better place for him to socialize and learn how to play and be with other adults and kids.
Of course, there are some skills that we’ve noted at home. These you probably won’t find on any progress report:
Snarfing apple pie
Cuddling 2 teddy bears at once
Climbing up onto his window seat and his new table and chairs all by himself
Ascending stairs in record time
Understanding the phrase, “Ready, set, go!”
Gobbling down a gigantic night-night bottle
Growing out of his baby tub
Wearing shoes daily
And a host of other amazing things. The other day, he learned how to sip out of a straw AND blow kisses IN THE SAME DAY! “Wow!” you exclaim. We couldn’t agree more.
If you’d like to peruse LB’s current report, click below. I’m not sure he’ll always want up posting his “grades”!!!!
We’ve enjoyed listening to LB babble away in his little baby-speak for much of the year. Daily, we hear mama, dada, hi, gobble (???), good, and lots of other random fun noises. Some of them include adorable, breathy utterings and clicks. But today, we took pride as he repeatedly called our cat, Maxine, “gata.” Just so you know, that’s Spanish for “cat.” We even called up LB’s Mamita in Guatemala to have her confirm his new word!
Ahora bien, si el dijera “Te amo” en español, imagino que mi corazón se derretiría.
Update(from Daddy): And we have 2 more words in Spanish : Pato (duck) and Vaca (cow). The Vaca word is pretty exciting since it will open up to a family classic joke. The return of Gando is imminent!
And so our 2009 Halloween adventure began. A little monkey, exploring the local N-ville neighborhoods.
We waited by the door to greet trick-or-treaters.
And laughed at all the silly folks stopping by for candy.
We even enjoyed quite a bit of outside time in preparation for the evening. Mommy says in a few years, I can help carve my own pumpkin. For now, this one will do!
Can you say, La-La-Latin? Sample some of my marimba talents below. To my dear Mamita, Opa, Mama, and Lucia, gracias for the wonderful new toy. I LOVE it already…but not as much as I love you!!!
It’s official! I’m one year old today! Thanks to all for the happy birthday wishes, and thanks to my grandparents, Godparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins for making such a great day yesterday. I hope you all had as much fun as I did. Especially eating my first piece of cake…
Today in Guatemala we celebrate “Kid’s Day”, we can say it’s a tradition, and since you, my sweet boy, have Guatemalan blood, I thought it would be nice to share this tradition with you, so as we say here in Guatemala: “Feliz Dia del Niño”. I love you very much, and each day that I receive your pictures my heart and day is filled with joy, which you have brought since the day you were born.
Love you,
Auntie Lucia
PS. Check your front door for something special, it should have arrived today!
Dear Auntie Lucia,
Thank you so much for the gift! I LOVE it! If you click on the link below, you can see just how much! I’ve already mastered putting a few of the shapes in, but I’ve got a lot more to practice. Thanks for thinking of me on this special day for kids in Guatemala. I love you very much. And I want you to visit. And I want you to bring Mama, Mamita, and Opa. And I want you to stay. And I want to give you hugs and pat you on the back. And I want to show you how big I’m getting. And I want to show you how I can walk a little bit.
And now I’m so tired. Goodnight! And thanks again!
No, we’re not expecting again. it’s even better, and it’s official, since both Enrique and I, along with other impartial judges (The Lillards), have now witnessed it.
AND HE WALKS!! LB CAN WALK!! Let the celebration begin.*
Instance 1: Mommy picks up LB at daycare yesterday. As she walks in and smiles at him standing across the room, he lets go of the exersaucer and toddles 5 unexpected steps toward Mommy.
Instance 2: LB visits BabyLil. As he’s playing on the floor, he pulls himself up to stand and walks 4-5 steps beside the table…no hands!
Instance 3: Daddy buys LB a new pushing/riding toy in hopes of more upright movement. LB returns the love by walking steps for Daddy…without using aforementioned toy!
Instance 4: Miss Wendy (LB’s teacher) reports LB toddling around the infant room on occasion.
We look forward to a whole host of new adventures now. Stay tuned! (We know you will!!)
*By celebration, we mean loads more babyproofing along with much charging of camera batteries to record said event for all eternity.
Lima Bean was trying so desperately to send an e-card to his beloved cousin. Blast those broken computers!!
A very happy and blessed birthday to cousin LB!! We’ve been thinking about you all day, Little Buchs, and we look forward to celebrating with you soon. Thank you for bringing so much joy to our lives and making 9-11 a day to cherish.
And we grow out of ANOTHER set of pajamas. This happens at least once per evening. I’m expecting a pretty big spike in his height chart at his next appointment. Time to shop, I guess!
