Dancing Peas

After half-an-hour of playing with bears and Tonkas here, LB had a hankerin’ for some Black Eyed Peas. Seriously, the Peas are his favorite band, and LB typically doesn’t hesitate to bust a move whenever they come on the radio. Without further ado…

Hilarity at the Art Show

We attended Uncle Buchie’s art show last night. It was quite the night, hobnobbing with the artsy folk of Indy on a cold, January eve. Our arrival was after LB’s bedtime, so I was unsure how he would handle the evening. But running into family, friends, and lots of cool art (some hands-on!), made for a successful evening. As we waited for everyone to gather for the journey home, LB and I played in the lobby, doing silly things with his hat. Hilarity ensued…

Hope you enjoy the laughter AND the teeth. Sorry about the shoddy camera work…I was the one trying to be silly with the hat while filming.

UPDATE:

Here’s a clip of LB enjoying himself enjoying himself. Enjoy.

What a difference a little sleep makes!

While the events of yesterday were wonderful for our family, LB did showcase a different side of himself than most have seen before. While some might equate it to the “terrible twos” (he’s only 15 months, people!), I think so much of it has to do with lack of sleep and a proper sleep schedule this week.

See, LB is transitioning to the toddler room at school this week. And that means going down to one nap. While he did take a nap every day, he took most of them back in the infant room after playing in the toddler room in the morning. This meant not only less sleep, but also a shorter nap since the infants take two shorter naps as opposed to one long afternoon nap.

Boy did we FEEL the lack of sleep this weekend. So in a quest to earn our poor baby the sleep he so needs, we let him “sleep in” today (7:30, ROCK ON!!!) and we’re on nap #2!! This is after an almost-2-hour morning nap. I know we should also be transitioning to one nap at home, and that time will come. But in the meantime, we needed to ward off “Crank-opotamus” in favor of the sweet, loving, charming LB we’re used to. We know he’s still got a strong will and shows off his temper, but today’s been a much more normal day. Hence, today’s babble in the car on the way home from lunch. Turn up the volume and enjoy!

A Christmas Make-Or-Do Extravaganza

Holiday greetings to one and all. Yeah, I know, I know. It’s the middle of January, for goodness sake! The Bucher clan finally organized to have our family Christmas celebration, and it was a fun day for everyone. For those of you who don’t know, our family members swap names each year, and we either make something for the person whose name we received or we make a plan to do something with them. Hence, Make-or-Do.

This year, as all years, did not disappoint in creativity, fun, and sweet gifts given. Here’s a run-down

Mom and Matt had each other’s names. That was fun! Mom made Matt a garden stone that was very “Matt”–handprints, footprints, pawprints, Legos, and lots of memories. She also made him some Emeril’s seasoning. Yum! Matt gave Mom a wine and cheese basket with plans to send her and Dad to Symphony on the Prairie this year. Good thinking to add an expiration date, Matt!

Enrique made Jenn some cardamom cookies and a plan for Around the World in 5 Meals, as the two of them enjoy ethnic food much and both work downtown near some great eateries. He also made a donation in her name to the Red Cross.

Jenn had Chris’ name (nice that she didn’t spoil the spouse surprise) and made him some Colts pajama pants! Much adored by all, although maybe not appropriate for the upcoming Superbowl Party. Go BLUE!

Chris spent time in the woodshed crafting a garden box for Karen. Although there’s not a lot of yard space near their Chicago condo, she and Josh can now grow some fabulous things on the rooftop or in the back of the building in their new cedar box.

Karen and Josh collaborated on gifts for Enrique and Sarah. They sang, played guitar, and recorded a set of favorite tunes for Enrique and Sarah to enjoy with their sons. We knew they had musical talent, but now they’re recording stars!

Sarah, although frustrated when her original plan for her Make-or-Do for Josh fell apart, picked up the pieces and put together another great gift for Josh and Karen to attend a Bela Fleck concert. She even arranged babysitting and a meal. A fun night for sure!

Which left Dad and Rachel, who also had each other’s names! Rachel gave dad 3 garden stones, one for each of his grandsons, complete with footprints, names, and birth dates. Oh, and some new handkerchiefs to use as he toils outside to find just the right spot for the stones. She stole Enrique’s Red Cross donation idea for Dad as well.

Dad created a family tree for Rachel. The 3-D tree he constructed was put in a shadow box, and really was made into a miniature scene of our house with a giant tree to the side. It starts with LB’s great-grandmas near the trunk and “grows” up to include his family through Lima Bean, Little Buchs, and Little Monster. It will be a great addition to LB’s room.

We also enjoyed spending some much-needed family time together, and of course, watching all the little boys play. Here are just a few highlights (but send us more pics, family…we know there are others out there!!)…

Poop in the Tub!

Anyone watching American Idol this season? If you caught any of the Atlanta coverage, you might have enjoyed an old dude auditioning with his own song called Pants on the Ground. If you haven’t caught it, here’s a clip. It’s a must-see:

Well, that little ditty has been bouncing around in my brain since it aired. And as it bounces around in there and collides with other daily events, I put my own words to the song.

Hence the title of this post…POOP IN THE TUB!

Indeed, LB had his first floating poopies. Actually, a surprise to me, his two lovely poops did not float. Not sure if that’s true of all posterior gems or just particular ones. It was all kind of surreal…We wanted to get him out of the tub right away, but we had to get towels, then move LB and his soap to the other bathroom and re-wash him while trying to keep him from freezing to death. In most awesome timing, Enrique had just come upstairs when I noticed the brown bathtub additions, so he took care of disposing of them while I gave LB an extra cleaning. Once LB was clean, dry, warm, and cozied up in bed, it was back to the bathroom to scrub out the tub and sanitize the tub toys.

Could have been a really ugly scene, but ended up more of an adventure. Hopefully not one we’ll repeat any time soon.

But now that you’ve enjoyed Pants on the Ground and heard our lovely Saturday Night Adventure, sing it with me now…

Pucker up!

Those of you who know dear LB have probably been on the receiving end of the kisses he blows. It’s actually pretty cute. He’s never really understood the “blow” part of the kiss, but he happily touches his palm to his mouth and grins in your direction if he finds you deserving of a smooch. (Or on command, when he darn well feels like it.)

Much as we love this sweet expression, it’s been a surprise to us that he hasn’t figured out real kisses yet. More surprising when you consider how much he’s practically smothered with kisses, at home, from Grammy and Gramps, from Aunts and Uncles, from his teachers; he’s just darn kiss-able.

Well, I suppose all that lip-smackin’ has finally gotten to him. As Enrique and I left LB at his grandparents’ house last evening, Enrique asked for a hug from the babe. LB held out his hands, pulled up to Enrique, opened his mouth, and planted it on Enrique’s face! All together now…Awwwwwww! And YAY!!! First kiss!

Not only that, but LB repeated it this morning as he said goodbye to Grammy and Gramps. Two sweet cheek-kisses. I’m waiting for mine. Patiently (for now).

Oh my…

Could you not just drown in those eyes! Sweet little boy!

A Monday Mystery

I wonder who left this kind of bathroom mess?!??
