So, he is taking baby steps …
That is what seems to happen when you put black socks on a baby with a bad case of sweaty feet … or feets as my wife calls it …

So this is little LB sacked out on our bed last night after play time. Note that after two separate Arc of Pee incidents at Grandma and Grandpa’s, our little “nakey time” before putting jammies on isn’t too flashy, especially when laying on Mommy and Daddy’s bed! LB’s sleep number is apparently a reasonably firm 70. He would probably drown on mommy’s side…rarely set above 30.
Last night, the little babe developed his first rash. I noticed some red splotches on his cheek and forehead when we went shopping in the afternoon. By evening, it had spread to his eyelids, other cheek, and quite irritated on his neck. We stripped him down and called the doctor. Possible culprits: new lotion that we’re trying, adult laundry detergent (I sometimes mix his clothes in with ours), eczema, or baby mysteries. My first instinct was to get him in a bath and scrub him down to remove any allergens on his body. However, although the doctor said a bath was fine, we were not to use soap on the rash. Good thing we asked! So we skipped the bath, found a nighty that had surely been washed in Dreft, and set upon getting LB to sleep. He had a fitful night, waking several times and wanting a feeding around 2, which he’d been skipping for a couple of weeks. I had a fitful night too, waking when he woke and checking to be sure he wasn’t becoming a rash-covered itch ball. Happily, we can report that upon waking this morning, the rash has diminished greatly, and LB seems in fairly good spirits. Yea!
The down side of this all is that I’ve got to re-wash all his clothes. We think the culprit may be the adult detergent combined with the collar on the golf shirt he donned yesterday. Unfortunately pregnancy brain has rendered me useless as to figuring out which clothes I washed how, so we’re just going to re-wash them all. Better safe than sorry!

Well, little LB and I had a lovely week at my folks’ house this past week. We even lucked out with a day of school cancelled, so I got even more time with my wee one. Mom and Dad are such wonderful hosts, and it’s a win-win for everyone. They get to enjoy quality grandson time, I get to enjoy watching them enjoying him, and there’s always someone willing to hold the baby!
Our babe is doing some fun new things…he’s kicking and moving up a storm, he’s learning to suck on his own lip when he needs to occupy his mouth, and Enrique is pretty sure he got a giggle this aftrernoon. We’ve also enjoyed many conversations with him, as he’s gotten into a lot of baby babble.
I think LB enjoys hanging in the recliner as much as grandpa:

So this week, I went back to work. It’s kind of hard to describe how it’s going. I’m enjoying being back with my students and having the routine of school. But in the down times (OK, that’s WAY an overstatement for teachers…no real down time. Just time where I space out for a moment.) I just daydream about LB and can’t wait to get home to cuddle with him. So I suppose that it’s good that I’m happy in both places. Although I am already crazy behind in grading papers.
A good friend of ours has graciously agreed to watch LB during the day. In my mind, this has worked out so well thus far. (Let’s hope she thinks so too!) She and her family have similar values and parenting styles, so we feel extremely comfortable with him being there. I’m sure her boys are already like big brothers to our little guy. God has been good with putting this family into our lives!
Enrique actually stayed home today to watch little LB. It was his first time alone for a lengthy period with our little one, and it was a success. Although LB didn’t sleep much, they had lots of good play time and father-son time together. They even cleaned up the kitchen AND made dinner. YUM!! Hooray for a successful day at home as father and son fall even more in love with each other!
I should be writing my lesson plans, but how can I help but procrastinate with this little cutie in my midst…
