BOO!

Happy Halloween! We’re getting in the holiday spirit around here! Well, not really, but since little LB has some cute Halloween outfits that I’m quite certain will only fit him this year, at least we’ve got something here that speaks to the time of year. Pretty much otherwise, I’m completely oblivious to what day it is, what time it is, and when I’ve last eaten. But when we sit down to chill with a little bundle as cute as this one, who cares?!…

Thanks to our friends Heather, Mark, Adell, and Owen for the great skeleton shirt. It even glows in the dark…really!!!

Just learned something new

Well, little Wessie has learned a new skill. This is just after his first sponge bath (kind of a traumatic Thumb Suckerexperience), and as we cuddled with him wrapped up in his towel, he figured out how to suck his thumb. All together now…”Awwwwww!” Later on (when he’s 13 or so) I’ll be worried that he’s still enjoying this habit, beings he’s found the same thumb as his father and me. But right now, it’s just about the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen!

From the mommy

I’m not sure I even know where to begin this blog. I have so much to say, and I just don’t know how to put it all in words. Or maybe I’m just too tired to put it into words.

Some thoughts are especially present. God is, very indeed, so good. Little Wesley David is so beautiful. My husband is a wonderful father. I can’t believe I’m finally a mom.

Some thoughts are just there maybe in my state of exhaustion. Am I doing this right? I can’t possibly be doing this right. Can I get just 5 more minutes of sleep before Wesley stirs? Whose bloated ankles are these, and who stole mine?

And some ever-so-brief moments of a tired mommy. How do other moms do this? Should I have put a little more planning into this the last nine months? One would think I’d be a little more prepared.

Then I remember (or have someone remind me) that Wessie is only 4 days old. I’ve been doing this for only that long. And we’ve come quite a long way in 4 days, especially considering we’ve been home only a little more than 24 hours. In that light, what can I say, except again, God is so very good indeed!

Indiana Wesley and the Fountain of Yellow

Sing with me … Tu tu ru tu   Tutu ru   Turu tu tu tu Turu tu tu tu  (Indiana Jones Theme)

Anyway … Wesley is home!  He was released on Wednesday, Oct 22nd, from the NICU.  Our first night together was an adventure and discovery … and some of that carried on to today (actually yesterday) too, but no doubt it will keep on happening day after day with the little dude!

The discovery:  Not all gauze is made the same, and when it says water proof and non-stick, it means it.  Since Wessie had some procedures done in an unmentionable area, there is a need to care for him a tad more when changing diapers, well Rachel and I saw that we had some non-stick water proof gauze, Rachel prepared it and we applied it, this was the event that took place at around 11:00PM on Wednesday.  Fast forward to 2am, Wesley took swimming lessons … not really, but Rachel found him wet, actually very wet.  At the time the blame fell on the diaper, he was changed and the procedure with the non-stick water proof gauzewas repeated … fast forward to 4am, swimming lessons had resumed … once again, Rachel found him very wet.  Now the scientific method called thinking started, Oh Crap! The gauze was non-stick water proof, and it actually did what it was supposed to do, it repelled the water.

Now, I, the one with the engineering degree thinks … how much would a 3 day old child pee?  And how much strength  would it have?

OK, fast forward to 2am (yes, 35 minutes ago).  I proceed to do what no other Enrique in this household has done before, I enter the adventure of changing a diaper.  OK, get the Wesley object ready … check!  Get old diaper out of the way … check! Get new diaper ready … check!  Whoa!  Where did that come from?  Is that PEE!!!???!!! Oh, yes, and the answer to my question came in the form of a high arching Fountain of Yellow!

I am tired, must go sleep for … some weird number of minutes!

The Thinker … Part 2

In the middle of everything that was going on, this morning we saw this again, and it reminded us of the ultrasound picture.

How Pooh got me to the NICU

Oh Bother, Pooh said!

Little Wesley in his effort to come out yesterday to meet me, Christopher Robin and my friends at the 100 acre wood, got so excited so in the womb he shouted … Poo!, he got the message but forgot the “h”.  And so that is how Meco Nium tried to be a character in our newly written story “How Wesley met Pooh”.

Now, Tigger is helping him bounce, Piglet in charge of the heart so he can get a pinkish hue, and eeyore decided to notice him and not let him be blue, Kanga in charge of the swaddle and me, the huggable bear, in charge of him finding that golden honey when mommy comes to feed him.

All in all, 48 hours in NICU must be spent, checking something about learning other cultures or making sure his cultures come out right and that nothing else but health is growing on little Wes.

We at the 100 acre wood would like to ask you to join us in praying and wishing the best so baby Wesley can get out of NICU in those 48 hours and join me, my friends and his mom and dad in getting everything ready for the neat adventures to get going.

Hello, World!

Wesley David

Wesley David

Well after a very different Sunday, we are proud to announce that at 6:42PM … weighing in at 7lbs 2oz, with a height of 52cm … Hello, World!  My name is Wesley David.

Here we go

Well, we woke up at about 4:55am today, Rachel had some orange juice to make the baby move.  The next thing we know is Rachel telling me she has been having contractions since last night at about 10PM!

Anyhow, we made it to the hospital at about 7:30am, have been here since, and now at 3:30 we have the 10cm!  The process will start soon.

We’ll keep you in the loop!

The waiting game

So, for someone who loves human interaction and at the same time carries the same type of love towards, well, electronics, I expected the baby to know I was home and to come join me right out here and say “Hello, World!”.  Nope, that didn’t happen.  I guess we just have to let things progress, unlike computers where we can accelerate the process and then well fix it once we realized we didn’t read the manual’s page on the implications of acceleranting the process.  So here we are at what I am now calling T Minus 2 days.  Rachel has felt some things that are definitively different, but no fireworks.
Anyway, my ipod is wanting to play, ok me, “Beautiful Boy” as soon as he arrives.

Will keep you in the loop

To the Buchers

One cannot talk about being looked after without giving a huge shout out to my parents! While Enrique was traveling as he began his work with a wonderful new company, my folks took me in and pampered me so graciously. I spent two lovely weeks at their house, visiting with them and Grandma, eating their wonderful meals, snarfing down all the peanuts-and-candy-corn mix, enjoying leisurely walks, and basically just being a well-taken-care-of pregnant lady. Dad asked one evening as he headed to bed, “Does it feel the same being back here?” I responded, “It really does, except you go to bed a lot earlier!” And who can blame them…so do I!!! As much as it would have been exciting to go into labor with so many loved ones there at my beck and call, I am glad that little Lima Bean has waited until his daddy is home.

Dear parents, thank you so much for your love, support, warm arms and hearts, now more than ever! We are so excited to be an aunt and uncle for the first time and looking so forward to being parents now that we can hardly stand the wait. We are so blessed to have you near. You’ll probably never know how much we count on you!

Now, let the water breaking commence!!! :-)
